Sexual Harassment
Throughout the history of the United States, government officials have spoken about filthy things forgetting about the idea of political correctness entirely. Current president, Donald Trump, when referring to women has felt entitled to “grab ‘em by the pussy.” Some politicians have been corrected, yet to this day, some still continue to speak openly about their disgusting sexual desires that should clearly be kept to themselves. Women have dealt with suffrage far too long now to be constantly reminded that they aren’t respected for their individualism and viewed simply for their biological structures. Statements underestimating the impact of sexual assault/harassment are tolerated too much in our society and in our government.

Happy International Women's Day
A few days late, but worth the wait. As an ode to us let’s honor International Women’s day through the Ted talk given by Trace Ellis Ross in April 2018. In Vancouver, Trace stood in the Ted conference room proudly as she presented, “A woman’s fury holds a lifetime.” This truly resonated with me, though I am only in my 20s I unfortunately see and carry the weight my mother(s) had to endure. This Ted talk and this passage here is not to shame the entire male species, not to spread hate, but to open up eyes. It is the 21st century and as Ms. Ross says, time is up and it is now the time to stand up for our women! “Time is up on mans bad behavior!” Let’s give our women a louder voice, be proud of us for speaking up. Let us remove the unnecessary limits we place on the female species.

May We Know Them
I’ve started writing this on International Women’s Day. Every year, this day sets me back in my seat as I’m reminded of the strong, powerful, and fearless women that exist in this world. Each year, there’s a little part of International Women’s Day that speaks to me more than all the others depending on what I’m focusing on in my life at that time. I remember vividly in 2015, looking through photos of women in the motorcycle industry that have been welcoming beacons into a hobby that I knew nothing about. They don’t know me. They have no idea I follow their motorcycle trips on social media and watch in awe and amazement as they take the power to do these things I couldn’t have even imagined. I remember waking up one International Women’s Day to pictures flooding my timeline of the "Fearless Girl" Statue on Wall Street, wearing a motorcycle helmet. I remember being blown away at that image. I stared at it. It stopped me in my tracks, and I thought to myself, “Why is that so powerful?”

I remember first hearing people at school use the term, “slut.” I didn’t fully understand why it was a slut, but it was made clear from the situation that it was not a word I wanted to be called. The girls who were saying it were all pointing in my direction, talking about me, and using that hushed tone people use when they want someone to know that they are being discussed in public.

I often hear from my acquaintances of both genders that that feminism is outdated. That equality is achieved and even if not, it has nothing to do with systematic oppression of women. There are other more poignant problems and as for sexism… we’ve dealt with it, haven’t we?

Feminism Defined
Today, in university classes it is hard to not take an English class and not hear the word "feminism." The word "feminism" is sometimes associated with "man-hating" or "misanthropist women." This is not so, this is a misconception. If you look up the word "man-hating" in the thesaurus feminism is nowhere near the word. Feminism by definition is "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes" this is what Oxford dictionary defines it. Lately, feminism has been seen as a negative issue because of undereducated people and for men who look down on women and spread their ego. However, the negativity of the word can stem from a term I like to call "misandrist feminism." These are the women that look at feminism as man-hating, others may call this extreme feminism, but extreme feminism for me refers to the woman standing on the street holding up signs saying "I want to get paid the same amount that men do," signing petitions about equality is what I call extreme feminism. Misandrist feminism, for me, refers to the women who hold up signs saying "Men are the cause to our misfortune," or "Men suck because I am a woman," those women are only looking to blame someone.

Things Feminists Want You to Know
I am a feminist. I hate men, I am offended by everything and anything, and I am disgusted by the thought of wearing pink/dresses/high heels/makeup/anything remotely feminine that the patriarchy forced on me. If you read that sentence and understood I was being sarcastic, from all feminists worldwide, thank you. You know your stuff. If you read that and didn't think I was being sarcastic, this article is for you. I hope I can change your mind. It gets tiring, trying to justify that yes, I'm not out to make female supremacy a thing, and yes, I'm allowed to shave my armpits and wear skirts. If I can make my life a little easier, and the lives of many other feminists a little easier, then I've succeeded.
