Developing an Addiction
The singing August sun beat down on the walkway as I held my father's hand firmly, hesitant to release it. We had quite recently gotten off the T and the sweat was at that point pouring down our brows. Everybody around us was in a distraught surge, all heading off to their own goals and not recognizing any other individual's quality. Individuals moved toward each path, faceless in an ocean of dim and dark suits. My dad and I were sore thumbs in the blend; my spic and span brilliant red pullover that had my most loved players name on the back, Nomar Garciapara, and his red cap made us the run of the mill sightseers to the region. I was overpowered with interest; the city was a place we didn't wander regularly.

The Elaborate Odyssey of Black Hair
A few days ago, I recorded Chris Rock’s documentary Good Hair on BET. It was a fascinating piece that covered the science behind African-American hair care products, the cultural implications behind why black women put so much into their hair, and the business of weaves and where they come from. I noticed that so many mothers were taking their daughters to the salon to get a relaxer before they even hit puberty. Some of these little girls were under two-years-old. Chris Rock interviewed a six-year-old girl at a shop and asked her if it was important to get a relaxer and why. She said that every black girl should have a relaxer so they can be beautiful. There was something very disheartening about this. To think that so many young black girls are being raised in this mindset; the mindset that anything close to white is better or prettier.

Bear 🐻 Duke
A day trip to London for an office meeting. Bear and I woke around 4:30. We went for a quick walk, Bear relieved himself of the evening meal and drink. Getting home I ran a hot bath remembering we had a 200 mile plus journey ahead of us. I feed him, possibly a little more than usual, and a few treats of dried tripe. I than sat in the tub for an hour and had a shave.

Redefining Family
Family can be fucked up. Or, if you're me, incredibly fucked up. All of my life I have hated family because of my experiences. I never understood how other people were so in love with their family. I didn't understand how people formed healthy relationships with parents. It was beyond my understanding because all I had been exposed to was toxicity. And so in my reality, family became something that in truth, it is not. I still don't know the proper definition, and it's questionable if I ever will, but this is my reality.
