The Grumpy Old Man

Grumpy but maybe lonely, who knows he won’t let us in

The Grumpy Old Man

There’s a man on the corner, all furrowed and grim,

With a frown so intense it could darken the dim.

He mutters and grumbles, a storm in his chair,

Complaining the world isn’t playing it fair.

“The kids are too loud, and their music’s obscene!

What happened to manners? What happened to clean?

They’re glued to their phones, their heads in a fog,

In my day, we worked – didn’t need any vlog!”

His garden’s immaculate, each shrub in its place,

But don’t touch the daisies or he’ll give you a chase!

The birds get a scolding if they dare drop a mess,

Even nature itself can’t escape his duress.

But beneath all the grumble and growl in his tone,

Lies a heart that just aches, feeling weathered and lone.

For the world’s moving fast, and he’s standing still,

Clutching old ways with an iron-strong will.

So next time you see him, perhaps give a smile,

Let him rant, let him grumble, sit with him a while.

For the grumpy old man, with his heart made of stone,

Is just longing for someone to not leave him alone.

What a great description of an old and how true. I knew a lot of 'grumpy old men' like that working as a nurse.
