I once was loved, a princess in your eyes,
You praised the dreams I held, the paths I'd take.
That pink dress gift, a strangely sweet surprise,
A token of the joy you used to make.
We sang together, puzzles filled our days,
New toys and truck rides, laughter in the air.
Your presence lit my world in countless ways,
Each moment proof of how you used to care.
But time grew cold, your visits ceased to be,
Replaced by calls that echoed through the ache.
A stranger now, you barely know it’s me,
Our portraits gone, like memories we forsake.
You’ve lost my name, my face, the bond we had.
Yet I’m already stone. You can’t make me sad.

Babbling Dixie
The short form of tomorrow is never the whole story. Abbreviations mean nothing when we are born to die and we all are aren't we? Being spoken for before birth is something we're not supposed to remember like some kind of karma after effect. Still here we are spending our lives looking for each other.

Love the heart half red and the other half cracking. Creates a deep first impression. The first quatrain buried us in what the person thought of their princess. The dress as a gift. I read it as a symbolic thread used to weave the joy they made in your life. The last line of the second quatrain breaks the good memories in pieces just like the heart in the photo. Oh my. The pain swells and spills over into my lap. The calls replacing their physical presence. You brought the message right up from your heart. When you said, 'our portraits gone'. Man! Already stone. Now they have no effect on you. This was powerful. You chose quiet soft lines, devoid of anger. But loud in pain. That's what allowed this to reach me in a way that sticks. Outstanding work Sara 🤗❤️

Another home run, Sara! This is very emotional and true to the sonnet form as well. I think that we all have those people in our lives that just faded for no given reason, and either it hurts a lot or we’ve hardened ourselves to it to the point that we don’t feel the pain of their absence anymore. Well done.
