How to Use Meditation to Treat Anxiety and Stress. Top Story - September 2017.
Meditation can seem daunting to those who are unfamiliar with the practice, and often people believe that there is no way they can possibly clear their mind for long enough to achieve any benefit. We often visualise meditation as the Buddhist monks sitting with their hands upturned on their crossed legs, chanting 'Um' repeatedly. Of course, this image is correct for some methods of meditation practice, but this is not the image you should associate with meditating.

Weathering Childhood Surgery
Hearing that your child needs surgery, for whatever reason, is a scary venture for any parent. It doesn’t matter if it’s emergency surgery for the first time, or the 10th time and scheduled in advance, you’re going to stress heavily. Having surgery can create a scattered mindset that will slow your ability to process information and limit the amount you can process.

Alzheimer's
I will start writing for this site with a subject that many will worry about. This is losing their memory, losing their mobility, or losing their coordination. I have been caring for people with various disabilities and conditions for a number of years but for the last four years I have been caring for people with varying degrees and types of Alzheimer’s.

Discovery of a Seizure Disorder
No one ever wants to be sick, to have issues. I was used to taking medication for different reasons my entire life. But starting my college years, I never thought this would be such a tiring process. Five years of testing and doctor's visits to try to resolve this issue.

Familial Adenomatous Polyposis
When you have a parent with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (aka F.A.P.) you have a 50/50 chance of also getting this APC gene mutation. Hepatoblastoma is a related childhood liver cancer that also has a risk of being passed on to your children. If you're EXTREMELY lucky (or blessed, depending on your beliefs) none of your children will have the mutation, but unfortunately for my fraternal twin Heather and I, we "received" these mutations. Heather was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma when it was too late. Even though she had weight-loss and in pictures I could see her chest bones and the nurse told our mom her distended stomach was because she was constipated when really....she had cancer. At 2 1/2 years old (1994) my twin died of cancer. Because no one thought anything of it....She had no chance. I lost my best friend forever.

Longevity and Good Health Can Go Together – Here’s How!
I just received a phone call from my father saying that he and his wife have just returned home from their latest excursion – a week’s holiday in the north of our state where it’s a little warmer than the winter they’ve been experiencing in their hometown. What’s rather unique about this story is that both my father and stepmother are 96 years of age! My father drove the 6-plus hours to their destination, and each day they were there they swam early each morning and played nine holes of golf before lunch. Admittedly, my stepmother drove the golf buggy while my Dad played golf, but my point is that this couple have just spent a glorious week’s holiday playing in the sun, without requiring any assistance whatsoever.

Why I Don’t Have An Alarm Clock
BEEP BEEP BEEP! For those of you who aren’t aware of that sound, that was supposed to be an alarm clock. For many people this device could be a device from hell, a pain in the ass, or perhaps some other colourful description. At the same time though people find alarm clocks quite helpful in some situations.

Change Your Circumstances by Changing Your Thoughts
We live in a vibrational universe. Everything on our planet and in our universe gives off a vibrational energy. The old saying "water seeks its own level," is not just a cliché. It is a very accurate statement because everything on this planet seeks out matches to its own vibration.

In Time
The years will pass you by and you’ll be left with memories of yourself trying to please others but never pleasing yourself, you will be left with the memories of a life that you spent trying to be like them when you could’ve just been you. And that’s what you will end up regretting most: losing yourself. You won’t even realize it at first, you’ll feel normal and accept the fact that life has passed you by and you haven’t lived, you haven’t found yourself or you chose to destroy who you were before they told you who they think you should be, and it will hurt, in time it will start burning your chest, and your body will ache, and your eyes will feel dry because you will be letting out all the tears you’ve been holding in all these years and yes — it will be too late.

10 Days of Silence
The first three days are easy! I am so cocky, virtually skipping through the residence shouting “I’m a great meditator! I’m a great meditator!” (in Noble Silence, of course). How liberating the strict timetable is; I am so free. So much delight in the minimal choices I have to make: round bowl or square plate? Meditate in the hall or in the dormitory? I’m going to sit in THIS seat to eat my breakfast. I make my bed all neat and French plait my hair. I am having so much fun.
