Corporate lynching
I know racism is real as a black woman in America. I have seen the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and so many others. I also know all about fear for my own children in that reality of overt violence. And these are consistent traumatic wake up calls to my mind of the racial disparities and injustice that still does exist. And, while those images are the violent depiction of the modern day lynchings we can relate to, many of us are getting lynched everyday in our social, political, professional and economic spaces. And the physical horror of lynchings have been replaced by more socially acceptable forms of terror in schools, businesses, and communities. It is nonetheless any less traumatizing when you feel the embodiment of the words nigger in action. An encounter with my own modern day corporate lynching awakened the grief and trauma of hundreds of years dating back to my ancestors. And this method of social and racial control meant to terrorize blacks has not disappeared, but is alive and well in the corporate and educational plantocracies of modern America.

Prom Night
Prom season is in full swing, and high school seniors everywhere are making that transition out of school and into the real world. Dresses are being chosen, tuxedos are getting rented, and limousines are getting reserved. Parties are being discussed and dates are being secured. The energy of enthusiasm and excitement is in the air, and it has awoken distant memories of my own prom night, which was now nearly 20 years ago.

What Does It Truly Mean When Someone Says “Adulting Sucks”?
Drawing of the author as a peanut Ever wish for your childhood back? Play was the most important element of being a kid growing up. So much so that there’s a billion dollar industry around the concept. Whenever I walk pass a toy section at a place like Walmart and view all of the colorful toys of dinosaurs, it gets me thinking about how short childhold seems to be. These poor kids only after all, have a short window to play, use their imagination and explore a magical world where you can be a megalomaniac and order action figures around or build and destroy kingdoms with LEGO building sets.

A New Voice
Sometimes a voice wants to find itself without looking in the mirror. I was like that once. I felt like my voice had been stolen from me– a few times, in fact– because I refused to look at it in the mirror or acknowledge its semi-tragic existence. Around me there were other voices and I shopped around a bit. Peering through the handprint-plastered windows, I tried to adopt the voices I saw around me because I refused to look at how broken mine was.

Don’t Work Again in 2022 if You Make These 5 Investments
However, if you take a close look at the current situation, the answer is obvious. As Silicon Valley is the innovation and startup capital of the world, talented young people flock to California to compete for the best tech jobs. Software developers can easily earn a few hundred thousand dollars in this country. There is more to it than that, however. The majority of companies use stock options as a form of compensation for their workers. As an employee at Google, for example, if you are a talented individual. They’re terrified of losing you! The human mind is at the heart of all new ideas and advancements. If you want to keep your job, they can simply give you stock options. If you work for the company for three or ten years, you will receive a certain amount of stock. After a year or two, you decide to leave your current job and join Zuck’s Meta because he renamed the company. You won’t be able to! For the sake of not forfeiting your contractually-guaranteed options, you must stay on until the end of your contract’s term. That’s what makes them millionaires in the first place.

No until it's yes.
It is said that the answer is no unless one asks. Have you ever found a minute of bravery to simply ask a question? I often wonder how my life would have evolved had I have asked more questions. What would have been removed and trimmed? I made such a call a few days ago to DOT asking them about two trees growing nicely in my front yard that was shared by the state. They had said that they could indeed take them down, but yet they remained, for two years they remained.

The Struggles Of a Single Homeless Mother.
The struggles of a single homeless mother. Will not lie. Things have not been easy for my daughter or myself these past eight years. We were homeless in California for several years because of how hard it is to find housing. A number made me promises of people who said they would help us but then never came through. We thought we would come to New York and live a different life with another person who said they were my friend and would help us, only for them to turn out to be not what they represented over the phone. She did not keep any of her promises.
