Some of you might have climbed Everest. While others backcountry ski. However, the Survival Film genre does pull another crowd, who shout “could have” or “should have” remarks from a sofa, with a bucket of popcorn on their lap. Who would have thought that the 2020 Covid-19 survival strategy would in fact involve a sofa, bucket of popcorn, and films? Whichever camp you're in doesn’t matter, all are welcome. The thrill of the Survival Film Genre is being able to mentally strategize quicker than the protagonist on screen, thus making one’s self feel confident to win the title: Survival of the Fittest.

Love and Punishment: The art of realistic love and the depth of human emotion
When Makoto Shinkai’s Kimi no Nawa(Your Name) hit theaters in 2016, the film instantly achieved the second-largest gross for a domestic film in Japan and the fourth-largest ever. It topped the box office for a record-breaking 12 weekends and became the highest-grossing animated film in China. For once, the critics and fans were in agreement; the movie was good. So when the US release finally began its run in late April of 2017, I knew I had to go see it, and it didn’t disappoint. Everything from the animation, to the soundtrack, even the opening grabbed hold of me and refused to let go.

Loved A Fault In Our Stars?
Everyone goes through that time where they want to sit in front of a screen and watch a fully developed, emotionally charged, loving....tear jerker. You know, the movie where its so sickly sweet and romantic yet so real and relatable but always ends with you crying your heart out in your couch pillow. You also have the ones that are absolutely tragic and the only reason you subject yourself to such soul wrenching emotions is because you need a good cry.

Actor Cary Elwes has had a strange career. Pegged as a leading man coming off of his breakthrough performance in The Princess Bride, Elwes never popped as a leading man after that film went down in history as one of the most delightful family movies of all time. After that came many high profile roles in big movies but Elwes receded into character actor roles rather quickly for a man of his leading man good looks and proper English diction.

Let's face it: there are a lot of shows (and movies) that tackle the purported lives of royalty. You have your British royalty spanning the ages (everything from The Tudors to The Windsors) and your French royalty gamut (heard of Reign or Versailles?) yet not much else. With The Crown becoming a gradual hit for Netflix over its past four seasons and the real lives of royalty recently crashing back into the worldwide public conversation, it's hard not to try and figure out why. What is our fascination with royalty? What draws us to these dramatics among princes and princesses, duchesses and dukes, and the ways of courtly life? Is it curiosity or envy? Or are we just keen to see ways in which royals struggle just the same as any other red-blooded human beings? The world may never know.

2020 Reading List
I read a lot. I wouldn't say I'm a prolific reader, but I do my share. When I'm not reading blogs or online articles, nothing beats the old familiarity of a book. A book is something tangible to hold and get close to you. I can get to know the characters and picture them in my mind. I think that's what has always intrigued me about reading. Over the last 12 months, I have kept a chronicle of the books I have read through, both fiction and nonfiction.

12 Films I Love That Are Based on a True Story.
I have a soft spot for movies based on true stories. When I was a kid, I primarily watched animated movies, never really going out of my way to watch live-action films. I had been fascinated with history since elementary school, however, when my fifth-grade teacher taught an interactive curriculum surrounding the Civil War. Movies based on true stories allowed me to appreciate live-action films for the first time, as they enhanced my love of history and allowed me to explore subjects I’d never been interested in before. In fact, the primarily dialogue-driven stories I saw in most of these films probably shaped my taste in movies as a whole. To emphasize how much I adore movies like this, I’ve created a top 10 list (or I suppose top 12, for reasons you’ll see within the list) of my personal favorite historical films. These aren’t necessarily the most technically brilliant, epic, or even well-known historical films ever made. These are just films that have a lot of personal meaning to me and that I would personally recommend to anyone who wanted to watch a movie based on a true story.
