Tarkov Has Too Many Items
Does anyone else feel like Tarkov has too many items? And when I say items, I mean pretty much everything. Not just weapons, attachments, or stuff like that. I mean the items that can go in your junk box, med cases, ammo cases; pretty much the entire gambit that Tarkov has in the game. The game has evolved so much over the years, that the necessity for more items in the game became apparent rather quickly. But with that, comes the potential for bloat. Going onto the wiki and just looking at the loot section, it’s insane how many items are listed there. Now, to be fair, almost every single item in the game has a purpose or reason for being in here. Whether it’s a quest item that needs to be found in raid, something used to upgrade the hideout, or an item that can be used for a strong barter at the vendors, as more items have come into Tarkov, older items have been given more purpose than they once previously had. Still, it’s extremely daunting to look at the item list and see what has been added to the game in the last few years. To say Tarkov has a lot of items is kind of obvious, but to argue that there may be too many items, that’s a different conversation.

Dissecting Tarkov's 30-Second Loop
Every video game has this idea of what’s called a 30-second loop. And of course, Tarkov is no exception. The idea of a 30-second loops is best explained as a question: “What is the most engaging way we can have the player interact with our game, within a 30-second period?” So, the idea of having someone experience the best parts of your game after half a second, that is so enjoyable that they want to keep engaging with it, is usually the goal for a lot of developers. Tarkov is no exception, but it’s a strange case for sure. Tarkov on its own is such an anomaly, that breaks a lot of the unspoken rules of modern game designs; it’s baffling how it grabbed so many people’s attention over the years. I suppose people just wanted something to really challenge them, and Dark Souls wasn’t doing it enough, or they wanted something in a first-person shooter genre. So, Tarkov is scratching that itch for many people. A game that is both challenging and rewarding with some of the highest highs and lowest lows I have personally ever experienced. I figured it would be interesting and dissect Tarkov’s moment to moment gameplay and perhaps see what is its 30-second loop, and why it’s so compelling for so many different players.
