So, I haven't written in a pretty long while, I have been dicking around on Baldur's Gate III for a bit with different classes/races. Trying some stuff out while having fun. My latest jabs have been with Clerics as my "Tav". I tried out a Cleric of Mystra with the intent of a Gale romance and a Cleric of Selune with a Shadowheart romance. I was trying to play a ranger for a bit without an intended romance (possibly Halsin, I tried one before and it had some funny moments, particularly with the Drow siblings in Sharess's Caress - highly recommended, Halsin is actually a cool and easy rom-com). The problem is that Rangers and Druids kind of suck. I might try it as a Oath of Ancients Pally though.

The Most Relatable Phrase in Tarkov
Death in Tarkov is an inevitability. No matter what you do, how you approach a situation, at some point, either you end up making a mistake and dying, or because Tarkov is the game we play, it decides today is not our day and well... we get Tarkov’d. Again, this is something most relatable to anyone who has experience with the game. A feint glimmer of hope; you get your task item; your heart rate starts to go up because you know the stakes are much higher now should you unfortunately perish. And yet you try to persevere; struggle against the game and all the odds thrown at you. Only to get one-tapped by a TOZ scav as he walks sideways at you, and you hear a distant laugh coming from your assailant. Those moments hurt; a lot in fact. No one likes to die in Escape From Tarkov, but even less so when the death feels either avoidable or completely out of our control. We all get upset by this when it happens, but this roller-coaster of emotions is usually only felt when playing solo. There isn’t anyone you need to relay information to. It’s only you and the game. And Tarkov wasn’t in a good mood. It’s different when you are with others; the experience of death is different; and can easily be summarized by two words:

What Offline Tarkov Does Right and What It Does Wrong
After many years of asking, we finally have an official version of offline Tarkov. I guess offline isn’t the right word, but a player versus environment take on Tarkov. Where either by yourself or with your friends, you can fully engage with Tarkov, the mechanics, maps, against nothing but AI. It has been one of the most sought-after features in the game. We got something a couple of years ago that was supposed to emulate PvE gameplay, where you can run a 5-man with your friends and fight bosses or each other, but deep down that’s probably not what people wanted. They wanted Tarkov, but without having to fight the level 65 sweat lord who hasn’t opened or purchased another game since they got Tarkov. And now they have that chance. After sinking a solid 25-30 hours into Offline and being around level 28, it’s well.... It’s Tarkov. I’m not sure what kind of revelation you were expecting. But in all seriousness, this mode is fun. Genuine fun. As someone who enjoys the gameplay loop, fighting other players and the highs/lows that come along with that, this experience is way more laid back and relaxing. We'll get into whether that’s a good thing later, right off the bad for people who are new to Tarkov, intimidated by fighting other players, or have always wanted a somewhat single-player experience in the Tarkov universe this mode scratches that itch and checks all the boxes. It’s almost “perfect” ... almost. Again, we’ll get into that later.

Ranking the Assault Scopes in Escape From Tarkov
Today I wanted to do something a little different and rank all the different assault scopes in Escape From Tarkov. According to the wiki, there are a total of 9 assault scopes currently in the game. What is defined as an assault scope? That’s a good question because there isn’t a clear-cut definition. But my guess would by any scope with either one or two zoom levels meant for assault rifles, with options for red dots directly on top of the scope. It isn’t a perfect definition but basically anything that isn’t a Vudu, Razor, Burris, or any scope people would normally use this late into a wipe. Considering there are only 9 options, we are going to rank them based on their reticle, zoom levels, housing, alternate optic options, and price from the vendors. From there, we rank them and see which ones come out as the best, and which ones are the worst.

Is the Flea Market and Found In Raid Healthy for Tarkov?
Recently, there has been an on-going discussion online about Tarkov, the flea market, and found in raid. All components to this game that have been divisive since they were introduced years ago. Band-aids to problems deeply rooted in the game’s ecosystem and functionality. The question of should these mechanics be removed is simply not a deep enough question to ask. There are too many layers in this problem that spirals out of control the moment you begin to think about it on a deeper level. For the longest time, Nikita and BSG were very steadfast about these mechanics not going anywhere. Especially the flea market. They made their bed and slept in it. However, as things have gotten rather.... tumultuous recently for BSG, curiously enough, Nikita has been more open to potentially adjusting these features for the future of the game. To what extent exactly, we’re not entirely sure, but these questions are still good to ask regardless. Everyone has a different opinion of the flea market and found in raid; some want it to stay because it is so integral to the game, especially considering there are other mechanics in the game built around the flea and FIR. While others want it gone so we can get those early Tarkov feelings back once again. It’s a tough position to be in as a developer. No matter what you do, people are going to be upset. So today I wanted to look at these features a little more closely and try to dissect the pros and cons of both keeping them around as well as removing them from the game. Again, it’s just a conversation; and while I will add my own personal interjections on the matter, at the end of the day, this is BSG’s game. They have the final say as to the mechanics that stay or get axed. So, keep that in mind as we go through this discussion.

There’s Only One Way to Increase Tarkov’s Performance
There aren’t many games like Tarkov out there. It requires not just a lot out of you, the player, but also the equipment you are running, especially your PC. This game has had its fair share of performance issues over the years. And to be brutally honest, it still does. As the scope of the game has gotten bigger, and BSG’s ambitions with the game grew alongside that, so too did the requirements necessary to run the game effectively. The older maps and locations around Tarkov are mostly optimized, but Streets is still the main problem out of all the maps in the game. The sheer size of the map compounded with the fact it has already gotten one expansion and there are plans for at least one more, means the map is just so large and filled with items that most PCs are going to struggle playing it. Even offline raids with no AI scavs spawning in, the map doesn’t perform well.
