Tarkov is Better Off Without the Flea Market
(Intro) Tarkov is simply better off without the flea market. A mechanic that was introduced all the way back in 2018, and since its introduction has created more problems and band aid fixes across the rest of the game than maybe any other mechanic introduced. And over the years, the flea market has taken on many different forms and iterations to try and salvage the balance of the game, all without any success. There is no world in which this mechanic is healthy for a game like EFT; the emphasis on going into raids and extracting with items means any way of cutting that entire process out of the equation is going to be not only preferred but abused by the community. BSG tried so many times to dial the market down in a variety of ways, but ultimately nothing really got the flea to a place that it felt welcome in the game. You can take the flea out of the game, but you can’t take the game out of the flea. Even with its absence here in the hardcore wipe, the damage the market has done across the game can still be felt. So today, let’s go over the flea market as a whole; the different eras of it, how its inclusion impacted pretty much every major mechanic in the game and how much better Tarkov is without it being around. It’s going to come back, but I honestly wish it wouldn’t.

Hardcore Tarkov Was a Failure and It Makes Me Sad
(Intro) Was the hardcore wipe for EFT a failure? Hardcore Tarkov has had a very tumultuous reputation since it was released with the most recent wipe. Tons of opinions across the community, ranging from this being the most fun wipe players have had, to the absolute worst how did BSG think this was a good idea. It’s been crazy to see so many different people talking about the handling of this wipe as a whole. And it’s barely been two weeks. Which is crazy because with all the changes coming from BSG, it’s felt like two months. But we’ve barely scratched the surface, and yet we kind of know what to expect for the foreseeable future. And while everyone else has and their opinions, my own is that this wipe had the potential to be one of the most impactful shake ups to the game since it was launched. I stand by the idea that Tarkov has needed a shake up on this scale for a long time. Something that would definitely make players hesitant to try it but would eventually give way to a difficult but enjoyable experience that truly tests the metal of an EFT players. It could’ve been amazing; and yet it’s only been okay. A complete failure? Depends on who you ask. But let’s talk about how BSG could’ve changed the game to preserve the hardcore experience while also making respectable and reasonable changes that many would’ve agreed with, and where do we go from here in regard to a more hardcore experience.

Scav Bosses Always Spawning was a Mistake
(Intro) Hardcore Tarkov is about making the game more challenging in a variety of ways. One change that went against the idea of difficult and challenging was making the bosses always spawn at the start of the wipe. I’m not entirely sure why this change was made, but with all the other restrictions that BSG put onto players, allowing us the constant chance to fight any boss on any maps was simply a mistake. Most people initially saw that in the pre wipe pictures they put out and scratched their heads wondering if it was going to be a good call adding the bosses all the time. Well, turns out it wasn’t and only after a couple of days, their spawn rate was reduced. So, let’s talk about it; the bosses in Tarkov, how they addition to hardcore goes against the entire point of the challenge, what I would’ve personally done, and just how it feels as though this hardcore experience has already lost some of its luster with all these changes happening so quickly.

Ref is Still Broken in Hardcore Tarkov
(Intro) Ref has been a trader in the game for a while now. And before this wipe, he was already considered to be an arguably too powerful dealer within the world of EFT. Tons of fully modified weapons, the best ammunitions in the game, all being sold with GP coins instead of rubles. Even if you didn’t have him leveled up all the way to four, at three or even two, he still provided tons of equipment for you to use that can give you a fighting chance against other players. And with the release of this hardcore wipe, we all thought surely, surely, he would get nerfed to a point where people might dabble with his wares, but it doesn’t feel necessary in order to be successful. Well… he was nerfed, technically. But his inventory has been revealed and man, Ref is still easily the best trader in the game. His existence breaks the rules of Tarkov, and combined with this being a hardcore wipe, he ruins it completely.

Is the Hideout Worth Upgrading in Hardcore Tarkov?
(Intro) A lot of Tarkov’s elements and mechanics have changed with this hardcore wipe. One of which being the hideout. And many would argue it’s genuinely just worse off. While we no longer need found in raid items to count for the module installations and upgrades, to compromise for that BSG has made leveling up the hideout that much harder by increasing how much we need to collect. That alone is a fair trade; I use that word loosely. The things we find now don’t need a survival status to be useful, and we can still apply them to the hideout should we get sent back to our stash prematurely. But now, even after about a week of playing, I don’t even have all my modules installed to level one. It’s been a very slow process even just getting the foundation of the hideout setup. On top of that I am quickly running out of room because I have so many items I may or may not need depending on whether I keep going with the hideout or not, which is a valid question people are probably asking themselves. Which has gotten me thinking: is it even worth it to invest into the hideout this wipe? There’s more to it than just needing more items, so let’s break it down and have a conversation about the hideout within the context of this wipe and what it might look like when 1.0 releases later this year.

Tarkov’s Transit Points are Awesome but Poorly Executed
(Intro) Everyone has mixed feelings about the hardcore wipe so far. But most people seem to agree that the forced transit points to get to the other maps, was a stupid idea. On paper, it’s an interesting concept. With the marathon challenge, the ability to go from one map straight to another without offloading whatever gear you have on you was introduced. A new way for players to engage with the maps and overall, having to think about Tarkov differently whilst in that separate game mode. And once the event was over, the ability to transit was simply added to all maps after one minute of being in the raid. It’s a genuinely cool concept. And while I still personally am on board with it being the main way we get around this hardcore wipe, there are some obvious growing pains that need to an addressed soon. But before we get into what’s wrong with the transit system this wipe, let’s reflect on the marathon mode, when transit was introduced, what happened after the event, and the very recent change made to transit that can make it a viable playstyle should BSG nail down some of the problem points with the system as a whole.

Tarkov’s Hardcore Wipe is Brutal; Everyone Should Play it
(Intro) Tarkov’s hardcore wipe is officially out, and it’s brutal. Like, I didn’t think it would be this challenging. And yet, at the same time, it’s awesome, and everyone who enjoys this game needs to try this wipe. I mentioned this in the initial video going over the fact the wipe would be hardcore, that this is going to completely shake up the formula we’ve all come to know and love. Or hate, depending on who you are. It’s such a different experience knowing how much has changed, and everything else that wasn’t even detailed in the three pictures BSG posted last week. But we’re here now and it’s been a couple of days. So, let’s go over some general thoughts and impressions on this wipe so far, what has been the most fun or exciting, what has created some problem points and whether or not this idea was even worth it in the first place.

The Most Powerful Location in Tarkov Right Now
(Intro) Customs is currently home to arguably the most powerful location to hang around in the entire game. With the release of the small expansion earlier this year, it allows players to cut through the railroad tracks that overlook the new gas station and opens a brand-new building with multiple levels, tons of vantage points, and places to provide overwatch for your teammates should the situation dictate that style of play. It has become quite a popular location for all players because since it has released, most of my engagements with other players has been in or around this new building, which has been dubbed by some, the PvP building. On top of that, it’s generally center location across the map means that noise anywhere else can be rotated to with ease, making it a popular choke point for those that want to be in a dominate position to third party other fights going on across Customs. It’s just an awesome spot on the map that’s both new so people want to check it out, but with lots of different sight lines and angles that are beneficial if you take advantage of them. Of course, all of this has come at quite a cost: the performance across most areas of the map have taken a significant hit, and Customs is now probably one of the worst performing maps in the game. Either way, it feels like we haven’t had this powerful of a spot in the game since maybe D-2 being introduced. So, let’s go over what makes this new spot so strong, what the pros and cons to being there are, and the unfortunate sacrifice some players had to make for this location.

Breaking Down All the Changes for Tarkov’s Hardcore Wipe
(Intro) We know Tarkov’s July wipe will be hardcore. And now BSG has given us more information about what to expect with all the changes that are leaning this wipe into more of a hardcore experience. Some of it is very on-brand with what we were predicating it would entail. And some of it, has people very concerned with how this whole thing will play out. Over the course of the last week, BSG has put out three different pictures explaining the incoming changes to better prepare players for what they will need to adjust to when the time to wipe finally hits. Today, we will be going over each picture and each change within them to figure out what the general gameplan should be for jumping into the final wipe before 1.0. And of course, just giving general thoughts and impressions about these ideas as they are written. We don’t know how any of this is going to play out in actuality, but one thing is for sure: this will be without a doubt Tarkov’s most interesting, most unique, and most controversial wipe, in the game’s history.
