Severe Disadvantages Of Standardized Testing
Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” (Goodreads). Knowledge defines what we know and understand. Imaginations are what will discover in the future. Standardized testing was created in the 1920s, by Alfred Binet. Standardized tests are given to students in a consistent matter. This means each student is given the same question, the same amount of time to complete the test, and is also scored on the same scale for everyone. These questions could be true and on multiple questions. However, there is an ongoing argument on whether standardized tests are a valid method to determine a student’s level of knowledge. People who support standardized testing argue that this is a valid way to eliminate bias in grading, and that identifies where a student is struggling the most. While many institutions standardized testing, it is not a reliable measure to determine a student’s performance.
