They choose you!
At times you may feel that you have the power to choose your tattoo; and the for the most part you are correct, however in my case 3 out 4 of my tattoos chose me. Yes, you read that correctly, my tattoos chose me. The 3 tattoos I am referring, to are a tribal peacocks feather, a tribal black widow, and a wolf in a dreamcatcher. It’s always that adrenaline rush when you’re about to get new ink. It’s EXHILIRATING! Let me take it back to when I got my peacocks feather. It was something about feathers that was trending at the time, and of course I felt the need to follow suit, but I felt the need to be original. Feathers can be very dainty and elegant, which is fine, but I wanted something a little more edgy. I figured hey let’s get something tribal, very minimal not to flashy. Saw the perfect image on google and knew right away that was it. Now where I got my tattoo, was the inside of someone’s garage. Now before you judge, it was quite sanitary okay! He used fresh needles and I felt confident that he knew what he was doing. Now it had been about 3-4 years since I had a tattoo, and this would be considered my 2nd tattoo so I was nervous. Needless to say, my tattoo turned out great.

Quarantine Kanzashi I
I have always had a tepid relationship with my own hair. It is thick, black and curly, and although I love designing and creating fantastical hair accessories, I hardly have the time, energy or desire to work with my own hair. The more stressed I am, the more unruly I let it become.

Why My Tattoos Have No Meaning
I have twenty something tattoos on my body! About three of them have meaning to them! While a lot of people feel it is necessary that you must have a meaning to your tattoos as they are on you forever, I disagree. When I tell people many of my tattoos do not have a meaning, they tend to be shocked! I have had many a rant from a stranger that the ink is on my body forever therefore, it must have a super special sentiment to me! The meaning is that it looks cool and I like it! The only thing that matters is that you like your tattoos! That is literally it! I do understand that many people want meaning to their tattoos and I totally respect that. I just cannot face another lecture off a stranger in the street over my tattoos.

The Picture That Spoke a Few Thousand Characters
Meaningless notifications from the Linkedin app led me to my girlfriends profile; A beautiful black woman. After 10 seconds of scrolling the news feed, then 20 seconds of adding random people with cool pics, and titles, I see her. I had never seen this picture, and I was filled with a weird anxious feeling. I get like this whenever she posts pictures on Social Media, which is rare. Her popping up on my feed, is like an Easter Egg in a Marvel movie, or actually seeing a unicorn walk down the street. Its always a rare sighting, and I'm always freaked out for some reason. I texted her to tell her how beautiful the picture was, and how I felt seeing it, and then some more compliments; that I hope she enjoyed as well. I closed the apps, and went back to listening to The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi on YouTube.

Tattooed and Still a Lady
Anyone who has ever been tattooed knows the stock phrases that other people will use to judge your choice to ink a design onto your body. "That is going to look so bad when you are older." "Aren't you going to regret that?" "How is that going to look on your wedding day?" And similar lines to that effect. One of the more prominent ones for me is the fact that my tattoos somehow make me "less of a lady"—tattoos in themselves are apparently "masculine" things to have, and proper ladies shouldn't have them. Today, I am gonna walk through my basic issues with those statements, one lady-like step at a time.
