Bullying Bailey
Ever since it was first announced that young actress Halle Bailey would be portraying acclaimed Disney mermaid, Ariel in the new live action Little Mermaid remake, social media and film fans have been in a divided frenzy over the character of Ariel being portrayed by an African American actress. Regardless if you are for or against the race of the character being changed from the original, the fact that this is an issue shows that society, especially here in America, has not grown away from the ignorance of the past as much as we think.

My 9/11.
I remember exactly where I was on September 11th 2001. I was in the 3rd grade at Seawell Elementary in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It was a bright sunny day as the fourth week of school was progressing. In the mornings we would play kickball outside of the cafeteria and then the bell rang when it was time for us to go to class. Around 8:30 am is when my teacher started our lesson plan and everything seemed normal for all of 30 minutes, that was until 8:46 am came around.

Angel Tower.
6:45 a.m. my alarm is going off. I reach over to my bedside manner to give it a subtle tap while my face is still buried in my pillow, that alarm is this mama's call sign to get up and go to work. First I have to make sure that the kids have had breakfast and that my husband gets up and has his coffee before he heads to work. That didn't take long, normally it takes me an hour to get ready for work, but being that today is casual dress day I didn't have to be so formal ready. After the kids got on the bus, me and my college sweetheart rushed to the train so we could make it to lower Manhattan. My husband has a long day at the stock exchange and I have a long day at the World Trade Center.

20 Summers Ago.
As the summer of 2022 comes to a close I’ve reflected on it with a lot of great memories. Like every other time period in my life it was the music of the summer that really set the tone and captured the essence of the time for me. With all the good times I’ve had this summer I’ve really been taken back to a time period of which this summer reminds me.

Birth of a Universe.
No one can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say… I can hear many, in fact, it seems like it is all I can hear nowadays. My name is Xenus and my universe is dying. The screams I hear are the voices of the inhabitants of the other worlds surrounding my world in the distance of the Galaxy. Their worlds are dying just like mines and as these planets collapse into oblivion the voices of the billions who live on these planets scream in agony amidst the demise of their home. Today is supposed to be the day my world ends, oh the thoughts that cloud my mind when I think about how I will surely die later on this day.
