The Joke was on me
Mystery packages thrill me I grew up in a rural area where our mail came to the post office which was about 2 and 1/2 blocks from our home. A few neighbors had actual mail boxes on the side of the road but most of us poor black and white folk used the post office. I loved walking there each day on behalf of my grandmother and peering through the small glass window of box number 64. I would turn the combination dial and the little glass door would open and I would get to take out whatever was inside.

Vocal Media is changing but I'm not going along for the ride
Remaining constant in a changing world My story is that I have been writing for Vocal Media for four and one-half years since April 2018. Things have gradually changed and that is normal because change is constant. Unfortunately, the changes have affected me and writers like me in a not so positive manner. During my first two years of writing for this platform, I had five or six stories that were featured and I was honored.

Terrifier 2: No thanks
Thanks but no thanks When I heard about all the people fainting and vomiting while watching Terrifier 2 I had to wonder what was going through the minds of those who created this film. Did they stop to consider that another Jeffrey Dahmer might be motivated by the gory scenes or did they even consider that someone might have a heart attack and die?

The mystery of the blond girl
A Halloween Mystery On October 31st, 2018, it was my first Halloween in this particular home. I purchased candy in case any children knocked on the door and I placed Bible tracks in each bag praying they would be read. About 20 children, (some with parents) showed up between 5:30 and about 7:50 so at 8:00 I shut the door but did not turn off the light.

Trunk or Treat for Halloween started in churches
Halloween has evolved in many ways In decades past children dressed up for Halloween and knocked on doors in their neighborhoods. When someone answered they shouted "Trick or treat." Today you rarely see children going door to door thanks to COVID and also out of concern for safety. In our modern culture Trunk or Treat is popular and just like Christmas and Easter, it began in church.

Velma Dinkey is official confirmed as a lesbian
Velma Dinkey has been confirmed as gay Ken Spears and Joe Ruby were the masterminds behind Scooby-Doo Where Are You and the iconic characters Freddie Jones, Daphne Blake, Shaggy Rogers and Velma Dinkey. When the cartoon aired in 1969 life was shall we say more innocent. There was no such thing as an LBGTQ community and those who were gay males or lesbians kept their business private.

As a writer I prefer Chromebook over a laptop
My personal choice as a writer is Chromebook One of my pet peeves is when someone gives a personal opinion as if it speaks for one and all. Each of us is different and has different preferences. Comedian Steve Harvey causes me to cringe each time he says "All men" as if his preferences are the way every man feels but it's not true. Having said that I now prefer a Chromebook as a writer but I cannot say every writer needs a Chromebook. I am only sharing my experience but others naturally will have a different one.

Turn your tragedy into triumph
Violence against women gets a helping hand The goal of the Kering Foundation is to eradicate the abuse that affects 1 in 3 women around the world. The organization has been fighting violence against women since 2008. Kiesha Preston is in the green dress in the above photo and was asked to speak recently for a Kering Fundraiser on how she has turned a painful situation into a path for other women not to endure the same.
