hidden in the shadows

of doubt, fear and regret

I got lost in the shallows

where it's hard to forget

that nothing really matters

so why bother to ask

so distracted by the clatter

that no one noticed the crash

I'm tangled in the wreckage

that's tangled in a tree

still blind to the carnage

that love devoted to me

its covert politeness

so just a smile covers the pain

I've paid off the witness

to give me a good name

so, you see what I show you

cause you can't handle the truth

it's a charade that we wade through

while sabotaging the roots

so it comes up smelling like roses

keeping the stench buried below

that way no one will notice

what we don't want you to know
