It feels so different this time,

your return to me.

How many worlds have we burned down

with our insatiable desire for each other?

Have we learned how to devour

with just our eyes, no need to share any fragment of warmth,

keep the spark for ourselves, let it kindle the smoldering embers

of last time? Remember the world,

before I danced into yours with shoulders and eyes

that made your knees dissolve like jelly melting me inside out?

The mountains, the river, the snow, the shotgun, the train, and always

the trees, sometimes wisteria-choked with purple cascading like spring

is a waterfall, the cadence of the splashdown mesmerizing your heart

with that same new rhythm that beats in me,

coming close enough to look through the glass water appears to be,

get your face wet in it, feel the power cleansing everything,

even this love

that was never dirty.
