Corruption and Virtue

By A. S. LawrencePublished about 14 hours ago 1 min read
Is thinking a virtue?

Corruption closes in on me.

The vices try to take my mind,

But virtue's grace will set me free.

I wish them love and liberty,

But while I try to remain kind,

Corruption closes in on me.

I fight it off with waves of glee,

At times restrained by daily grind,

But virtue's grace will set me free.

My heart demands that I can see

while I'm surrounded by the blind.

Corruption closes in on me.

They trap me with my charity.

My sympathy becomes a bind,

But virtue's grace will set me free.

I pledge an oath to honesty,

Made vague by thorny contracts signed.

Corruption closes in on me,

But virtue's grace will set me free.
