A solitary wanderer waits patiently for his

moment to become purpose...

*

my mind drifts between now and when as I

rake crackling remnants into mounds of

browning aftermath; skeletal remains of yet

another dazzling exodus...

trees, once full of laughter, have lost their

character, exposing a dreary alter ego. their

armor, a rugged map of time, vows to protect...

busy squirrels race against the clock, stashing

acorns, fattening themselves along the way.

they too, feel their world rounding the bend...

blue skies grow greyer with each passing sun.

golden beams fall hollow, unable to stir the

day's chill...

flowers have withered away, their sweet breath

of lavender and honeysuckle dissolved into the

windโ€™s language long ago. air has become thick

with change and damp moss, soon to be the

likes of everlasting tundra...

*

as transition nears, i'll wake from a melatonin

haze to gaze at nature's trickery, stunning the

senses with a lapse in timeโ€”an overnight

spectacle...

glittering beauty will spread like a wanted

plague, bedazzling every inch of everything

as dawn reveals the work of an unseen artist,

transforming elements into glorious glass

murals, freezing the landscape into a frosted

wonderland...

i'll savor the moment with a warm cider; the flavor

of autumn's embrace, spiced with memoryโ€”

contemplating nothing...

appreciating everything...

in the coming weeks, I'll be wondering, waiting,

looking for our little wandererโ€”a speck of dustโ€”

to become the first snowflake of the year...

Ah yes, the seasons change but we adjust our thoughts to blend with life. Open minds and hearts keep us grounded...and sculpted ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜ŠHoliday cheers coming your way.

  • I love the transitions...and Nature as the ultimate artist here. Beautiful poem, Lamar.

What does cider taste like, I must try it and see. It sounds lovely to relax with while waiting for a baby frost. So lovely.

Well-wrought, Lamar! The way you ended it with the image of the lonely snowflake wandering out to herald winter was striking!

Your portrayal of seasonal transition is deeply immersive, especially the way you animate every element of the landscape with intention and personality. The shift from decay to icy artistry feels almost cinematic.

What a beautiful, atmospheric piece. I love your ending with the โ€˜little wandererโ€™ becoming the first snowflake.

The imagery and word play is soulful in feeling. Reminiscent of poems written by Walt Whitman or a taste of Robert Frost.

  • I loved how you wove nostalgia and being present into your beautiful poem- the imagery was splendid.

  • Melatonin gaze to haze, and wind's language, I especially loved those! Your poem was so beautiful!
