What Is The Point?

Looking Beyond Helplessness To Find Something Greater

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published about 4 hours ago 3 min read

It is so easy to get caught up in the problems of the world...

They are loud...

They are terrifying...

They make us feel so small...

And insignificant.

Things are progressing in ways where we question if we really will end up better...

Or if everything is simply going to make life harder and worse.

It can feel overwhelming...

Throwing us into these feelings of helplessness.

What is the point?

That is the question we ask ourselves when we wonder if anything we do is worth anything.

What is the point of creating anything, such as writing, if AI will drown it out?

What is the point of taking care of our health when the trends just say we are all going to become chronically sick?

What is the point of putting our best into our work when we know the workplace is toxic and will work us to literal death?

What is the point in trying if it will amount to nothing in the end?

What is the point?

If this is how you feel...

You're missing the point.

Are there some things in life that are not worth the costs?

Such as a toxic workplace that has no care about our own wellbeing?

Yes.

In some cases, some specific paths do not have a point and should be avoided.

But...

Just because one path does not provide...

Or a path seems dim...

Does not mean there is no path...

And importantly...

It does not mean there are no benefits.

Sometimes, the benefits may not seem great...

Or may not always look the way we might hope...

But that does not make them worthless.

There are things in life we should pursue...

If even just for ourselves.

For instance...

I do not write and publish articles every day, for nearly 1,200 days in a row now, so that I can become rich...

I do not write to prove my capabilities and knowledge over the AI Slop of today's world...

I do not write with the hope of standing out in an oversaturated "social media" world where no one is a part of a real community anymore...

No.

I write because I love it.

I write because challenges me to think.

I write because it requires me to grow to continue to write.

I write because it helps those who do read.

I write because it fills my soul with joy to show that I am capable of accomplishing something.

I write because it provides clarity to my thinking.

In everything you do with your life...

Instead of asking what the point is with a defeatist attitude...

You need to seek what the point is with everything you do.

And...

If you discover that there are some things that do not provide anything...

At all...

Then perhaps instead of sulking in feelings of helplessness that will never provide you with anything...

You should instead seek things to do provide something positive to your life.

I know how easy it is to become submerged and drown in the feelings of helplessness...

I have been to the depths of the abyss...

Questioning if anything was ever going to be worth it in life...

And considering ending it all.

I know how overwhelming that feels and how simple the alternative seems.

Yet...

I have also experienced some of the highest heights in a career...

And in life...

Because I took small stands to find a point in my life.

Sometimes they were small...

Even minuscule...

But what we fail to understand so often as humans...

Is the power of compounding.

You take a little stand here...

And it is little....

Even insignificant...

But...

It is yours...

It means something to you...

It has a point to you...

It provides something...

And that is all you need to understand...

That if there is this little amount that I have here...

Perhaps there is more.

So you seek and find another insignificant thing...

Then another...

And another.

Before you know it...

These seemingly insignificant things accumulate to become significant...

With more and more opportunities that you discover...

Bigger and greater than before...

Then...

Suddenly, everything seems to have some point.

There are still some that are small...

Just for you...

But there are others that expand beyond you...

Perhaps to levels you had not believed possible.

As you continue that journey...

You may find yourself in rooms...

Places...

Situations...

That you never even considered a possibility.

But this only happens if you stop asking what the point is...

And start seeking the point.

Start seeking.
