We all have missions and objectives, and how well we do at making them successful, or achieving them, depends on how we run them. How do you run yours? Are they turning out optimally, or ending with average or less satisfactory results? Do you want to do better?

These days, the world is harsh, brutal, and beating people down to the ground. It’s kicking them when they’re down, and holding them there more and more. That’s not what anyone wants, as they try to rise and thrive in the harshness of today. You want to thrive, succeed, and overcome, don’t you?

But how?

Who is Writing The Story

Are you writing your story? Or, are the circumstances that surround you writing your destiny instead of you doing it yourself? Too many people can say yes to that last question. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time you take charge of it all, and run it more cerebrally.

Being In Charge

When you hear someone say, “Good Morning,” and they’re excited, do you feel the energy coming from them? Are you having a moment where you cringe and want to hide, or are you having that feeling you need to overcome their excitement with your own. The excited person has more chances of being in charge than the less excited person.

That’s because, the excited person looks at the start of the new day differently. They’re seeing the chance to do better than yesterday, to make today theirs, and to conquer the things the world will throw at them. They’re the ones who are rising to the top, because every day, that’s their goal. Do better, succeed, and meet those goals.

How does someone move into that mindset?

One way that’s popularly promoted, and makes the most sense, is to set goals. But not just any goals. Set the goals from the ground up, and be ready to tackle them.

As you approach the pyramid, do not look at it as one thing. Separate it into the three sections. Break down your tasks.

Orange Section:

  • Get to work on time.
  • Get ahead on tasks.
  • Make time for the gym.
  • Make time for your personal goals.
  • Attend an event.
  • Put away a few dollars.
  • Make your bed.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Drink enough water.
  • Get 6 to 8 hours sleep.
  • Learn something new or as an update.

The orange section is for those daily goals, things that happen all the time, but are sometimes neglected. Most people neglect those things when they’re in a funk, or rut, as it’s commonly called. But everyday, if you can make three to five of these things happen, you have won the day.

Yellow Section:

  • Get vehicle serviced on time.
  • Leisure time events (A movie, a walk in the park, dinner with the wife, time with friends.)
  • Mow the yard, or have it done.
  • Read a book.
  • Learn something bigger.
  • Go fishing (or participate in your hobbies.)

These things aren’t the things we can get done every day, and it’s not an all-inclusive list. But, if you can make sure to get one or two of these things done on the weekends, or at least every other weekend, or once a month (depending on your situation) then you’re winning, and you’re growing. Your taking charge.

Green Section:

  • Write a book.
  • New Job.
  • New love interest.
  • Develop a skill.
  • Buy a house.
  • Buy a car.
  • Take a vacation/trip.
  • Get a colonoscopy/mammogram.
  • Get a check up.
  • Get your teeth cleened.

The green section has one goal in it always, and can have more than one. It’s for those things that are done infrequently, or new things you want to conquer. They’re all labor-intensive things and take time to save up for or to prepare for. Sometimes, getting up the nerve for that colonoscopy requires a planned week where you can stay close to home. Leaving it at that, but most people know what that means.

When you can achieve the things in the three sections, you’re a master at being in charge of your own story.

To get all of these things, you have to have the discipline to avoid distractions. We have those things in our lives that distract us from our overall goals. One things for certain, if you’re sitting around watching TV, scrolling on your phone, there’s a healthier, more productive and growth orientated thing that you could be doing.

Figure out one thing to put in the top spot, and that’s your long term goal. That’s the goal that you deem to be the hardest, and most out of reach. If it’s buying a new car or house, then in the middle section, put saving money. Then, find another two or three goals to put in the middle section. Make them things that will help you, or help you get to the top.

In the bottom section, fill it with small, innocuous things, that don’t seem like they’re much. The bottom section will be things like eat healthy, make your bed daily, get enough sleep, get to work earlier, and they’re all doable and give you small wins when you achieve them. Small wins are important.

A little progress each day will help you build the winning mindset, and can take you to the top of the pyramid by staying at it.

AND THAT’S MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
