A blinding mist that rises so high up, the setting sun soaks and drowns in it's depths. From where I fluttered in the warm summer breeze, I have always admired it; the magnificence it holds, the sheer glory of covering up an expanse of the land.

The forest was always warning me; the mist will engulf you one day, it holds the power to destroy you. The stream below had other stories to narrate. A beautiful land hides beyond; follow me, I'll take you there. A pleasant offer I had thought.

I watched as my green faded. The summer sun had pardoned us all. The birds had started their fall drill and as they flew by they spoke of it. You must go; it awaits you and admires you as much as you do. As I lost the strength within me, I still rejoiced. It was eventually to take me to it. The majestic abyss of what I could only always admire. Around me as the world changed, I held no care for it; for I was in awe of the future.

I watched as the rest of them fell, abandoned by the stream and onto the ground. Perishing away into the soil. It's okay, one had said as it floated down from higher above, I have always admired the soil. Oh, what it's like to be one with who you love. Oh, what it's like to encounter the one you always knew from afar.

We glimmered in the orange hue under the veil of the waning sun, the mist, now a dazzle of gold that shimmered even as the full moon lit up the night sky. As I had lost all that surrounded me, I twirled, flooded by the last of my life, the brown immersing me within.

I'm after all, an autumn leaf, that fell for a mirage.
